According to colour psychology green is a colour that evokes feelings of wellbeing, health, tranquillity and peace. So it’s completely understandable that given this information, we have a strong desire to create green spaces in our homes. This is not a trend and green paint has always been highly requested during my colour consultations. It has become even more popular since the pandemic because who didn’t need a little more peace and tranquillity in their homes during that time?
If you’re hoping to paint a room or a floor in your home green but want to be sure the colour is timeless this list is for you. I’ve compiled the best green paint colours (yes, according to me!) that are liveable and classic so you won’t be repainting anytime soon.
TIMELESS GREEN PAINT COLOURS

1/ BENJAMIN MOORE CUSHING GREEN

SOURCE: House & Home
If the green of your dreams leans closer towards deep olive this will be a great selection for you. This is a saturated deep green that will create a warm cocoon in your home. The thing I love the most about this colour is that Cushing Green has sage or gray undertones so that it feels more complex than just a simple dark green. The undertone creates a mood that feels relaxed and calming.
2/ BENJAMIN MOORE TATE OLIVE

SOURCE: Studio McGee
I can’t think of a better colour than Tate Olive for this bathroom. I love that it doesn’t overpower the white walls and pale gray floors. Instead, it works together with the dark gray countertops to create a masculine but easy feeling. This colour would also work really well painted on walls and would give you a warm deep neutral in a space that needs some grounding through colour.
3/ BENJAMIN MOORE OCTOBER MIST

SOURCE: Interiors By Sarah Langtry
This is another beautiful sage that will work virtually anywhere in your home. If you search the colour you’ll see that when there’s a lot of natural light the colour will appear light. In areas like this entryway where there’s little natural light it deepens but it remains warm and comforting. The beauty of this colour is that it could originate from any time period and that’s what makes it so classic. There’s no timestamp on this colour. And the fact that it was Benjamin Moore’s Colour of the Year in 2022 tells us just how wonderful it is.
4/ BENJAMIN MOORE HOLLINGSWORTH GREEN

SOURCE: Heather Bien
If you’re looking for a colour that is multidimensional look no further. The beautiful feature of this colour is that it is a complex combination of blue, green and gray. That means it will change with the light and will reflect its surroundings. Its mood will change with the time of day and will feel warm and cool depending on the time, direction and season. This colour is truly reflective of nature and will work well with all wood tones as well as taupe, brown and virtually any other colour found in nature.
5/ SHERWIN WILLIAMS EVERGREEN FOG

SOURCE: Tinted
One of the things that all timeless paint colours have in common is that they have some gray undertones. This is what helps them with their flexibility and ease of use. As opposed to a colour without gray that may lean too far towards its origin colour, the gray undertone will neutralize the colour. If you’ve ever been in a blue room that looks like it would be better suited to a child’s room that’s likely because there was no gray in it. This undertone is what makes Evergreen Fog such a remarkable colour. It’s so liveable and works in virtually every space.

6/ SHERWIN WILLIAMS CLARY SAGE

SOURCE: Pinterest
If you need a green that has a brightness to it you’ll want to try Clary Sage. It has yellow undertones that will prevent it from ever feeling too dark. This works really well in spaces that tend to be dreary or don’t have access to a lot of natural light. While you’ll never explicitly see yellow it’s the brightness of the yellow that keeps this colour feeling so breezy and light.
7/ SHERWIN WILLIAMS SEA SALT

SOURCE: Decor Creek
If you’ve been on the internet for a while looking for a green paint colour it’s likely that you’ve already come across Sea Salt. That’s because it’s been a long time favourite of designers and homeowners. This is best described as coastal because it’s got that hard-to-capture combination of blue and green. It looks beachy and feels evocative of the Hamptons in the summer. Just like so many of the other selections, this one has a very strong gray undertone that keeps it from feeling juvenile. If you’re thinking of painting your entire room or floor in this colour you’ll have plenty of confirmation that it works. Just search its name and you’ll see endless testimonials showing how great it looks in every home.
8/ SHERWIN WILLIAMS OLIVE GROVE

SOURCE: Jenna Kate At Home
This army green will create a statement either on a small area like this fireplace or a full room. While it does have a lot of brown and gold in it it truly does read like a green. Don’t be fooled by the tiny paint chip and how it appears to stray quite far from green. When applied and particularly in spaces with lots of natural light, this is a true green. I love how well this pairs with other natural colours to give a peaceful, zen feel to a space. If you’re craving the feeling of nature in your home, give this a try.
9/ SHERWIN WILLIAMS SAGE GREEN LIGHT

SOURCE: Valeria Jacobs
Let’s end this with something dark and dramatic. This is one of Sherwin Williams’ historic colours and you can see how easily this would fit into any time period. This is the epitome of a timeless colour that will never date. This deep, saturated green will show off its brown undertones in darker spaces but the changing tone is part of its appeal. If you want to make a statement without feeling dreary, give this a try.
