I don’t know about you but after a long winter I’m ready to look at something besides the inside of my home. When spring rolls around I love to spend some time cleaning up the yard and getting the exterior of my home looking fresh after a long winter. If you’re doing the same and want to go a step further, painting your front door will bring an instant update to your space.
The beauty of painting your front door is that it can transform your entry and bring new life to your house. It also has the element of instant gratification because it can be started and finished all in a single day. If you’re not sure how to pick a colour that will work I’m sharing my very favourite paint colours that could bring new life to your home’s exterior. If you want a colour that works with your whole exterior, my exterior colour consultation can help.
10 PAINT COLOURS TO UPDATE YOUR FRONT DOOR IN 2025
1/ Sherwin Williams Naval SW-6244

This colour is so popular and the reason is that it satisfies so many needs all in one colour. If you’re looking for a dark colour it’s got depth and saturation but there’s also a brightness that keeps it from feeling oppressive. I’ve written a post comparing it to Benjamin Moore’s Hale Navy which you can read here.
This colour is a no-brainer for so many homes because as you can see, it goes well with a white home. Equally, it looks great with red or orange brick. And for an extra punch of colour and a strong impact follow this homeowner and paint your planters in the same colour.
2/ Benjamin Moore Umbria Red 1316
SOURCE: House Beautiful
Red has historically been a go-to colour choice for a front door. It works well with both neutral siding as well as brick and it really avoids confusion about where your front door is located. It’s a classic choice and for a traditional home like this, it’s a definite winner.
That doesn’t mean you need to avoid red if you have a more modern home. If you live in a home made from more modern materials like concrete, glass and wood then red is an impactful choice. I love this red because it adds a touch of sophistication to your home’s exterior.
3/ Sherwin Williams Quite Coral SW-6614
SOURCE: Tinted
You don’t have to live in a warm, tropical climate to indulge in a fun colour like coral for your front door. This home’s warm white stucco is the perfect backdrop for the bold colour but I would definitely feel comfortable using this colour on a home with dark gray siding, orange or even red brick.
If you have a personality that is warm and inviting then why not let it shine and pick a colour that’s equally fun?!
4/ Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black SW-6258

There’s nothing more classic or more timeless than a black front door. I love it with the glass inserts but a solid black door just screams sophisticated. You don’t need to be a colour lover to have a home that looks stylish.
When painting your front door black remember that the hardware you choose will stand out a bit more so pay extra attention to this detail. And if you feel like the black and white combination is too drab then add some colour with planters, plants and a colourful doormat.
5/ Benjamin Moore Golden Orchards 329
SOURCE: Christina Marie Blog
This door feels so inviting! Who wouldn’t be excited to come and visit you at this home? It feels like a burst of sunshine. Although we rarely see it, a yellow front door is so chic and sophisticated while still feeling playful and fun.
This colour would pair well with any light or dark coloured exterior. If you have a dark gray home that feels a little drab, adding a colour like this will give it an instant lift. Sometimes we think the only solution is to paint the entire exterior but in fact, often a pop of colour can solve the entire issue.
6/ Benjamin Moore Van Courtland Blue HC-145
SOURCE: Rings End
I love the combination of the pale green siding, the white trim and this gorgeous blue door. This home feels like a vacation!
Van Courtland Blue is a great colour that will also pair well with either a red or orange brick exterior. I love that it feels daring but in fact, it’s quite a mid-toned colour so you’re not really taking a big risk with this one.
7/ Sherwin Williams Waterscape SW-6470
SOURCE: Southern Living
This mint green will give your home an instant beach vibe so if you love a coastal look this is worth exploring. I don’t recommend pairing this with brick as it could end up looking too pale and the pastel colour will seem out of place.
Instead, do just as this homeowner has done and pair it with light siding or stucco. Whether you have pale gray, tan, cream or white this is a definite winner. I would add additional pops of colour because you want this area to feel fun. The green of the topiaries is a great balance and you could add in any colour flower you love.
8/ Sherwin Williams Rainstorm SW-6230
SOURCE: Pinterest
I love the deep, moodiness of this colour. I think it’s one of those colours that will feel both traditional and modern at the same time depending on the architecture of your home.
While it looks great with this light brick, I wouldn’t hesitate to use this on a dark red or orange brick home. It feels like a dark neutral so it can help to harmonize a brick home that feels too loud.
9/ Benjamin Moore Alexandria Beige HC-77
SOURCE: Fancyhouse Interior Design
You’ve likely heard by now that taupe is back and here’s a great example of why we’re loving it again. This front door could have been so many colours since the brick on the home is so neutral. I love that the homeowners went with another neutral and just deepened the colour slightly compared to the brick.
There’s nothing loud about this home. It just feels sophisticated and the attention seems to be focused on the landscaping instead of the front door. This home proves that colour doesn’t have to be bold to be impactful.
10/ Benjamin Moore Mohegan Sage 2138-30
SOURCE: Chelsea Clarke
This is another home that could have pulled off any colour on the front door and yet, this seems like the absolute best choice. The dark green is so mossy and saturated that I would guess it looks either dark brown or black in the evening when there’s no natural light. And I could also imagine that its mossy green shines when the sunlight is landing on it. This is another absolute win for the neutral fans.
