Pam’s Favourites – Roundup of My Best Interior Design Finds

While most of my recent work is centred around renovations I do still find myself immersed in the world of furniture and decor as well. Afterall, if you’re going to go to the trouble and expense of a renovation there’s no better way to show that off than to properly furnish and decorate the finished product. I have relationships with all the best furniture vendors. I know which manufacturers are reliably consistent in their quality and which to avoid. I also know which fabrics will best suit a busy family. And I have my favourite decor pieces that are used to highlight everything and give it the perfect finishing touch.

Today I’m sharing what I think are some of the best furniture, lighting and decor pieces that I’ve seen lately. These are all pieces I would have in my own home. Most of them can be purchased directly but the sofa is from a trade-only source. That means the manufacturer deals with designers, architects and other professionals involved in the design industry. If you’re interested in that sofa, reach out to me and I can help you.

1/ Handcrafted Artichoke

Did you know that the artichoke is a symbol of hope and prosperity? I don’t know about you but I’ll take more of both of those please. Decor items are the most forgotten elements in a home. We get 90% of the way to a finished space and then either we burn out or run out of funds. The result is a space that often feels like it’s missing something important. Decor can’t be overlooked when you’re designing a space and unique and interesting pieces like this are perfect.

2/ Point Reyes Sideboard

This piece can be used as a sideboard in your dining room but it would also look wonderful at the front door as a console table. I love the texture which takes this from ordinary to amazing. This piece is wrapped in hand woven abaca and then designed in a marquetry-inspired pattern. It also has a glass top which makes it super easy to keep clean.

3/ Ema Ceramic Vase

Yes, I know you can buy a vase anywhere but one of the ingredients that’s often missing from a room is texture. Buy a vase like this one that has tons of texture and visual interest. This simple earthenware vase has a thick glaze poured to highlight all the depressions. That’s what gives it so much visual appeal. If your room needs that extra something, skip the plain glazed vase and go for something with texture.

4/ Mitchell Ottoman

An ottoman might seem like a strange item to be adding to a roundup of favourites but it’s a necessity. So many of us focus on the key furnishing pieces but forget that it’s sometimes the addition of these small items that make a space feel finished. Not to mention, it’s nice to have a place to rest our feet. And it does double duty as a seat when we’re entertaining a large group of friends and family.

5/ Tiny Terry Round Accent Lamp

Lamps are essential for creating ambience in our spaces. Yes, we definitely need overhead lighting but it takes more than that to create the ambience we all desire in our spaces. Did you know there are 3 distinct types of lighting required in every room? If you want to learn more, read this post.

6/ Andy Footed Tray

Trust me when I say you can never, ever have enough trays in your home. They may seem unnecessary but they serve a really important aesthetic purpose. They help to corral items but they also keep things looking tidy. I love a footed tray because it has the added benefit of providing height. Sometimes when it comes time to decorate a space, particularly a bookcase or shelving unit it can start to look dull. We need things with varying heights and a footed tray is perfect for that.

7/ Artificial Banana Tree

You might not immediately think that a designer would suggest buying an artificial plant. They did get a bad wrap for many years but the quality is outstanding compared to what we’ve seen in the past. If you have a corner that needs something with height in a room that doesn’t have the conditions for a real plant, invest in a high quality faux like this. This one is 71” and  has lush, large leaves that can be bent and manipulated to be as full as you like.

8/ Teddy Faux Fur Pillows

Pillows are more than just an accessory we throw on our sofa. They add texture and colour to our space, not to mention comfort. I love these pillows because they come in 5 different shades but all of them are totally on trend with today’s deep palette. Read this post to learn more about what’s hot in interior design right now.

9/ Valen Swivel Chair

This is one of my favourite types of chairs. So often we need an occasional chair in a space but it also has to serve double duty for more than one area of the room. For example, we might have a conversation area right beside the tv area. Often there’s a piece that has to be a multifunctional piece and it can be difficult to figure out what to use. A swivel chair is the perfect solution because we can twist one way when we want to chat and swivel back around to catch the game.

10/ Monroe Sofa

This beauty is manufactured here in Ontario by a wonderful family business called Marcantonio. I love the care and craftsmanship that goes into all their furniture. And I guarantee that whatever style you’re looking for, you’ll find it there. The Monroe sofa is a mix between classic and modern so it can work virtually anywhere. You can select from their extensive range of fabrics and leathers as well as the metal of choice to make it your own.

I hope you enjoyed seeing all of my favourites. If you like this type of post, let me know and I’ll continue to share with you.
