Bright & Airy Bathrooms That Will Make You Want to Redecorate Your Own

Bathrooms tend to be a very neglected area of our home. We spend so little time in there and we often don’t priortize their design and aesthetics. While the rest of the house is slowly being renovated or decorated our bathrooms are looking exactly the same as the day we moved into our home.

If you’re looking for some inspiration to get you motivated to tackle a bathroom renovation look no further. I’ve gathered some of the most beautiful bathroom images that show that our bathrooms can be bright, airy and full of beauty. Yes, they’re functional spaces but there’s no reason they can’t also be beautiful spaces that offer a tranquil retreat from the rest of your day.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS OF A BEAUTIFUL BATHROOM

So what does it take to turn your drab and boring bathroom into something stunning? It’s a simple equation because let’s face it, bathrooms don’t include too many elements. I’m sharing the steps that will help you build a bathroom that feels like a retreat.

A Cohesive Design & Colour Palette

Every great bathroom begins with the design including the colour palette. It’s easy to spot the bathrooms where each element was added over time without consideration of the rest of the space.

Select your tiles, cabinetry, countertops and fixtures together rather than separately. That doesn’t mean they need to be purchased at the same time but instead they should work seamlessly together. If you found a floor tile that you know has to be included, be sure the wall tile works with it. Check the countertop against those tiles and if anything doesn’t look cohesive it needs to be removed.

Same thing goes when selecting colours. Colour has the ability to create a cozy, warm space or a vibrant energetic one. What’s the goal and purpose of this bathroom? Be sure that your colour palette aligns with that goal.

A classic bathroom will give you years and years of enjoyment. Even a modern home will suit a timeless bathroom. Think about longevity of design when you plan your bathroom design.

Timeless Tiles

There’s so little to rely on in a bathroom for visual impact. Tile tends to get a lot more attention than it does anywhere else because it’s prominent and there’s so much of it. Again, stick with the classics. You may love the latest trend in tile but consider that trends date quickly and that can mean you’re renovating again before you wanted to.

Instead go for tiles that are classic and timeless. Subway tile is commonly used and now you can find it in a variety of colours, sizes and textures. If you think you don’t like subway tile you might be surprised to find colours and textures that persuade you otherwise.

You can also go for a classic penny tile, hexagon, herringbone and basketweave tiles. These have been used in homes for decades and there’s no question that they’ll be around for the long term.

A Statement Bathtub

One of the things that many statement bathrooms have in common is a beautiful stand alone bathtub. While we’re often hopping in the shower because it’s time effective, it’s also nice to be able to slow down and enjoy a leisurely bath from time to time.

A built-in tub/shower combo is a builder’s essential but if you really want to create a timeless showstopper, opt instead for a stand alone piece. Traditionally this was a claw foot tub and they’re still relevant today. We’re also seeing a surge in popularity with the modern version of that which is a freestanding pedestal tub.

The tub will become the statement piece in your space and there’s honestly nothing as glamorous and elegant as a freestanding tub. It’s definitely a bigger investment but the investment will bring lots of happy returns.

Elegant Light Fixtures

Even if you prefer the linear style of a bar light there are lots of simple, elegant fixtures that will enhance the rest of the design. And be sure that you select timeless metal finishes as well. Another aspect of a dated bathroom comes with dated finishes.

Beautiful Bathrooms

This bathroom offers a wide open sense of space. It’s packing in a lot with the large walk in shower, a separate tub and an extensive vanity. The clever use of a rug down the centre helps to direct the eye towards the shower which enhances the feeling of space.

This space feels calm and tranquil in a tone on tone colour palette. You can see how every material has been carefully selected to work with the palette. This is proof that neutrals are never boring.

Not ready to go all beige? This gray blue vanity is the perfect pop of colour in an otherwise very white space. This works well to highlight the custom vanity and creates a beautiful focal point.

If you love a transitional space you’ll appreciate this shower. The small subway tiles are classic while the gold fixtures add a modern touch. It still looks timeless and if the homeowner ever decided to change things up, it wouldn’t cost a fortune or require any major renovations.

This is my bathroom at our family cottage and I couldn’t be happier with how this small space turned out. The blue and white wallpaper might seem too busy for a small space but as long as everything is cohesive, even large scale patterns can work well.
