I know what your concerns are when you think about using off-white on your home. You worry that it’ll get dirty over the winter and make your house look dingy. While it’s a valid concern if you use the correct paint you won’t have any issues. Benjamin Moore Aura paint for example is designed to be resistant to fading while it can also endure winter snow, rain and UV damage.

There are a lot of elements to this home that would have been considered when choosing the paint colour. There’s the blue siding and the blue-gray roof but there also seem to be 3 different shades of orange at play. The stairs are a mid-toned orange and they butt up to the darker orange brick in the arch of the door. There’s also an orange brown brick from the chimney at play and together this might feel like a lot but the white painted around the door and on the stucco is a perfect way to highlight the entry as well as some of the home’s architectural details.

Sherwin Williams Snowbound is a classic, beloved white and it’s a great choice for your home’s exterior. It has a creaminess that will look warm when the sun is hitting the home and it won’t ever feel too stark.

2/ Gray

I haven’t made it a secret that gray isn’t my favourite colour. I’m a colour lover and often gray is used because it is (or was) on trend as opposed to being used because it’s the right choice. In some instances I love gray when it’s used well and on an exterior like this, the choice was a good one.

The palette is simple and while gray is the prominent colour, the dark wood and white accents are just enough to work cohesively to create a beautiful palette for this home.

The lighter tones of the brick and stucco on this home might feel like an invitation to use a light gray or soft taupe paint. Instead these homeowners were daring and took the lead from the dark gray of the siding and it paid off. The dark gray is a refreshing contrast to the brick and adds some depth to the home’s facade. It also allows the beautiful light brick to pop out against the darker colours.

Benjamin Moore’s Chelsea Gray is a beloved interior colour but hopefully this home will convince you that it’s perfect for the exterior of your home as well.

3/ Taupe

This is the category of paint colour that most of us probably feel is the safest. It’s not as likely to get dirty as white but it’s not as risky as going for a gray. And yet, we still need to be careful because taupe has a lot of undertones that can affect the way it appears. Find out how to pick the perfect beige paint in this post.

If you look really closely you can see that these homeowners took the cue for the paint colour from the brick steps. I would say this is a perfect match! This is a perfect example of what I always preach about looking at the fixed materials when figuring out your paint selections.

The black that’s used as an accent around the door and window trim is just enough to keep this home from looking too light. The combination is perfect and this homeowner has even used that black paint as an inspiration for the planters. There’s a lot of attention to detail and it has come together perfectly.

Sherwin Williams Unfussy Beige is great against this off white home but the red undertones would also make it a good choice for a red brick home that needs a lighter taupe as a contrast.
