While brick is lovely and timeless it can be a huge challenge for homeowners. It’s difficult to know what colour goes with the brick. In some cases the orange may even lean towards pink which is equally as challenging. For a lot of us we end up playing the safe game and leaning on neutrals like black, white and cream. Those all work well with orange brick but if you want something a little more inspiring I’ve got you covered. I’ve gathered the best combinations that will give you some inspiration to move ahead with adding new colour to your brick home. If you want a cohesive result from the roofline down, my full-scope exterior design takes care of every detail.
How To Use These Colour Palettes
Start by examining your brick closely. Is it fairly consistent in its colour across the brick? Does it have a pattern that includes 2 or 3 shades or orange or pink? Or is it multi coloured and includes shades outside of orange and pink? You’ll want to be sure that the colours you select work with all the tones and shades included in the brick.
Next, you need to keep in mind that colours appear much lighter in natural light. That means that you need to be a bit more open minded with the colour palettes you select. Don’t be scared off by colours that appear too dark. They will look less saturated when they’re painted on your home’s exterior.
And don’t forget about testing. You obviously aren’t going to paint test samples on your brick or your garage but you do need to see these colours in relation to the brick at various times of day before you decide. You can purchase large sample boards from Benjamin Moore or Sherwin Williams. If you can’t find them or can’t locate your preferred colour just buy a small tester size of the paint colours you’re considering and paint up your own large samples. Take them outside and view them in early light, mid-day light and evening light. Watch them change and make sure you love them at every time of day. Testing is time consuming but can help you avoid expensive mistakes.
If you’re interested in using one of the recommended palettes you can use either two or all three of the colours. If you just want a simple palette of one colour for the door and one colour for the trim, great. If you want to use all three, I would suggest using the darkest colour for the door, the mid-toned colour for the shutters and garage door and the lightest for the remainder of your home’s trim. If you just need a paint colour for your front door, read this post where I share 15 paint colours for your front door.
Lastly, keep in mind that all of these palettes are created using Benjamin Moore paints. If you prefer another paint manufacturer you can use these as your guideline for selecting comparable colours.

Tan – CC-520
White – CC-40

If you’ve been looking at other homes and feeling uninspired I hope you’ve found your inspiration here. The best tip is to stick with classic colours and don’t try to be unique. You don’t want to be that house on the street that is referred to because of its crazy colour combination. If you need help selecting a colour for the interior or exterior of your home, contact me.
